Good morning, Angels of Inspiration friends and family.

I am working on the second book in my Angels of Inspiration children's series. The writing is coming along famously. I've put out the word that I am looking for illustrator submissions for this book.

It's difficult for most illustrators to see what an author sees inside their imagination when they create their characters, but with some carefully scripted guidelines I have received a few submissions and wanted to share them with you.

Angels of Inspiration... It brings me joy, knowing that I have reached out to others as an author's agent and have made a positive impact in the lives of others. As a result of signing a new author to publish under my Angels of Inspiration logo, this has allowed me to meet some incredible people and artists. Today's interview is with Shawna Carter, published author and illustrator. I have contracted a series of books to Shawna for our brand new author and so therefore wanted to share with you, my Angel of Inspiration friends and family a little about our new friend and co-worker Shawna Carter.

Welcome to our family here at Angels of Inspiration, Shawna!

Angels of Inspiration...Please tell our family of friends who you are and what are your believes as a childrens book author?

Shawna Carter... My name is Shawna Carter and I grew up and live in Belleville Ontario with my family; my wife Katy and our daughter Brenna. I write books that inspire children of all ages to pick them up and read. And then they show another child how fun reading is, and another and another. I believe that what we do as author and illustrators is as important as what teachers do in that they teach the child the tools they need but it is up to us to motivate them.

Angels of Inspiration... At what point in your life did yous decide to write a series of childrens books?

Shawna Carter... I have always wanted to write and draw. Always. It was non negotiable with me lol When I was in elementary school I created and ran a faculty news letter from the point of their students, complete with cartoon strips and more.

Angels of Inspiration... Having spent some time chatting with you, you seem passionate about your art, your books and your creative side. Where/who does your Inspiration come from?

Shawna Carter... My inspiration comes mainly from my family, for example, my daughter is the main character in my Lil' Creepers book series - but also from everyday life. Sometimes I'll hear or see something and a picture will pop into my head of the situation and I'll have to write it down. A big source of inspirtation comes from Beatrix Potter actually, who is my great great something - aunt I think, but I love her artwork and I often draw out her characters.

Angels of Inspiration... Where do yous get your "creative juice" as a writer? what motivates you to write about the topics of your books?

Shawna Carter... I like to write about things that 'spark' me lol Cooking with Creepers is a dessert cookbook for beginners because helping in the kitchen brings independance for children and I love that!

Lil' Creeper's Winter Shenanigans is about resolving a bullying issue. THAT sparks me Things like that spark me, common problems, like I even like writing about people's dislikes lol

Angels of Inspiration...Who and what age groupS do you believe would benefit from your books?

Shawna Carter... I like to think that everyone can enjoy my books. And I know that everyone would like to think that but I firmly believe that people of all ages enjoy my stuff because the books and pictures are incredibly fun. I use an awesome vocabulary that is hard to find in kids books really and my drawings are insane lol These things make it amazing to read to yourself and fun to read to others, and that is what makes them good for everybody.

Angels of Inspiration...What are your experiences and credits as an author/illustrator?

Shawna Carter... I have professionally and successfully self published three children's books, one of which has been picked up by NCM Publishing to be traditionally published.

I have illustrated and created and marketed my own colouring book and have illustrated two books by a new author and am working on two more for her, which I love doing. In the future, I will be releasing MY next book, which is a fully illustrated beginners chapter book, I can't wait for it to come out!! I have toured many of the Chapters and Indigo locations in Ontario and have done a great many school and other events as well where I go and make a recipe from Cooking with Creepers with kids at the event as well as doing tons of readings.

Angels of Inspiration... What are your beliefs for childrens reading and literary habits around the world?

Shawna Carter... I don't think there are enough parents reading to their kid's. I think you should start with nice colourful books at the earliest age possible! I think that there is not enough focus on literature anymore with the crazy rise of technology - which I'm not bashing - and people are more concerned with those skills because that's what is more commonly used.

Angels of Inspiration... What is your vision for the literary world and your childrens books?

Shawna Carter... I want to inspire every child everywhere to pick up a book. I want to draw them into literacy with my books and keep feeding the hunger for knowledge that will grow from that with creativity.

Angels of Inspiration...What is something you would tell people who want to become writers?

Shawna Carter... Write about what you know. It'll flow better that way.

Angels of Inspiration...Share something about yourselves your readers/ fans do not know about you.

Shawna Carter... I am a huge advocate for free literacy. I have a campaign called Literacy is Priceless and what it is , is that I collect donated books, I raise money to buy used books and then I donate them where they are needed most with in my community and those surrounding. I believe in creativity in all forms for example, I have many tattoos - and they are all of my own drawings, bet you didn't guess that! lol My favourite tattoo is on my forearm and in script is reads 'Love is Louder'.

Angels of Inspiration... First of all, I want to say what a thrill and an honor it is for Angels of Inspiration to be able to interview and discover inside the mind of such a thought-provoking spiritualist and the inspirational stories that is so obviously come through in your art. I spent some time admiring your work and reading the inspiring stories relating to many, which is so obvious with every story. I was captivated each time with each story your desire to speak for those who cannot speak, our young and our old. I wanted our readers at Angels of Inspirationto learn more about Nancy Fritz.

Angels of Inspiration... Having said that, please if you will introduce yourself to our friends and family here at Angels of Inspiration and share with us just a little about who Nancy Fritz is.

Nancy Fritz .. I am a 64 yr old Lady who hails from Fort Wayne, Indiana and my hometown is Warsaw, Indiana.....who is driven in her quest to advance Literacy Worldwide....It is with deep regret that children everywhere are not focused on learning no matter what their level of achievement...Their desires and goals need to be verbalized and written ...Many parents have learning disabilities themselves and henceforth their children are expressing their goals in many different ways....Inspiring books and the desire to express can only come from those dedicated enough to inform and give them those skills to learn....In My Life I have encountered these problems first hand...As an LPN...I learn many parents and children did not understand what was told to them about a child's heath and medication.....As a State of Indian Corrections Officer ..in a Juvenile setting....I learned Children who could not or was not prepared to express themselves often did so with violence....and while working with Special Needs Children...I found they often did learn rapidly when offered visuals with materials containing Bright Colours...I am only taking what I have learned over the many years of working with children and applying it now to these books.....

Angels of Inspiration. . . What make’s Angels of Inspiration unique is the passion, the vision to teach children to dream. The drive and dedication to create the tools required through entertaining children's books to empower our next generation. To give parents the help and words to teach their children and help them develop the positive mind-set to lead by example. Angels of Inspiration is unique simply because it's an org. that cares, and stays committed to our children and their future.

Angels of Inspiration. . . Have you always wanted to write and if so how long have you been writing?

Nancy Fritz ... I started writing when I was Thirteen but was not encouraged till a series of tradegies happened in my personal life...and I was profoundly dismayed with how children's behavior and expressed feelings were a direct result of not having learned to read or be motivated to learn....that was ten years ago...then I found I needed to write...and The Passion has never stopped! It has only deepened. Two Authors stepped into my life then also...Richard Cote of Corinthian Publishing and historical Author...and William Greenleaf...famed Sci Fi Author...they set my feet upon this path, and I have never looked back...and Dennis Scheig and Ed Rose...All of whom just took the time out of their days to read what I wrote and Believed In Me....Encouragement and Motivation to succeed are Marvelous Allies in Life!

Angels of Inspiration. . . Please share with us what sets your art, your books apart from the rest and makes it unique?

Nancy Fritz ... I do many genere...including Goth Children's Books as they are gentle Monsters, who relate to children no matter what the child is encountering in their personal lives...I write about many real children with medical and psychological problems, and these gentle monsters help them through their lives...and my books are Truth based...Always.!...

Angels of Inspiration... What brought you to Angels of Inspiration as a published author under their angels logo?

Nancy Fritz ... I met You and through You found a haven upon which to rest and challenge myself to continue. Many Women my age just stop ...I chose to go on and leave a legacy of sorts for the children who walk behind me ....and for those who have walked into my Life at various times....My Adopted children and My Foster Children....I admire what you are doing with your logo....and want to be affiliated with such an admireable person ....Our Goals in Life are much the same, and our combined drive and passions are unparallel.....

Angels of Inspiration . . . What inspires you in your work?

Nancy Fritz...Children with Imaginations...Children can be so remarkably simple to understand if you realize the complexity of their minds....

Angels of Inspiration. . . What do you hope others take from your creations?

Nancy Fritz ...That the world is an attainable goal for many...if they just learn and set goals and master them one at a time and be open minded to what the possibilities are...There is No Limit to what they can achieve...for themselves and our future...and that takes motivation and Passion about themselves first and what they want to achieve secondly....Their self-images are what is important...

Nancy Fritz... I will continue to Write...I am about NOT about to stop midstream in My life...There are too many children out there who can overcome their obstacles. I want to publish all my genres and my poetry. Your thoughts determine the type of day you will have . Fill your mind with positive ideas, suggestions, and thoughts. You will find it will change your attitude and changing your attitude can change your life. We all have the choice when it comes to our own attitude - it can be positive or it can be negative, the choice is ours. Sometimes just reading an inspirational quote or a short writing focuses my thinking in a positive way.

This is my beautiful daughter and sometimes book event assistant. Amanda.

We are what our children model, why not make it a positive visual for them...

The word "enjoy" is best when it's used as a verb, for example, "to bring joy" into my life or someone Else's! And, the old adage "love and happiness" go hand-in-hand! Beautiful message to start my day with!

At the end of the day, our goals are simple but very hard to achieve. Undivided attention. Yes, we often remind our self to pay-attention. Attention is an investment into our child's future. So to know that someone is always there, is important no matter what the situation is. Going through life together is one of many important factors a parent can do for your child, no matter what the situation is.

What we as parent want is to make sure our children KNOW that they are truly loved, even when we as parents are not there anymore.

Children may be small but if you're genuinely interested, they can truly have a great conversation with you.

Goal Setting With Your Kids

A fresh year and some fresh goal setting with your kids! What a great opportunity to set some exciting goals for yourself, and show your children how to do the same. Children learn by example and what better example can you set than by showing them how to set goals?

Some things to bear in mind when helping your children set goals include:

1) Be careful when suggesting deadlines or time limits. When we get to the age where the months seem to fly by, it's easy to forget what time feels like to a child. Remember when two weeks seemed like an impossibly long time? Be sensitive to the age of your child when talking with him about time frames.

2) Have your children write their goals down – or help them with that if they are too young. Write down not only the goal itself, but also WHY it's important and what it will LOOK LIKE when it's achieved.

3) As much as possible, let your children be the ones to come up with the ideas for their own goals. If you need to make suggestions, be as sensitive as you can to their age and interests. Be especially sensitive about the "size of the goal". Children need to have big goals broken down into mini-goals so that they can see progress quickly, preferably on a daily basis. A goal to learn to spell five new words a week is better to focus on than winning the national Spelling Bee!

4) Work on the goal with your child – but don't take over! Make sure that your child can sense your interest and support, but be careful she doesn't think that you want to do it for her.

5) Set a good example by having written goals of your own and let your children see you working towards them regularly.

Goals help you to make decisions.
Goals help you to develop self-confidence.
Goals help you to recognize opportunities.
Goals help you to overcome defeats,obstacles and roadblocks.

These are all things that goals will do for you. Goals will help you to concentrate all your power, energy,talents and efforts on an end result about which you are excited and enthusiastic.

Once you understand the benefits to goal setting, why not start teaching them to your children at an early age so that goals simply become an every day way of life.

Do you read to your children from your iPad or other device, or encourage them to use an e-reader to read to you? Many of us do, at least on occasion — even I, who wrote here some weeks ago that I rarely read on my own iPad anymore because I want my children to see me reading books, recommended an app for creating fun picture books for travel last week. If you have a tablet or e-reader, why not add it to your child’s reading repertory as well?

The answer, according to Lisa Guernsey of the New America Foundation’s Early Education Initiative, is that when we read with a child on an e-reader, we may actually impede our child’s ability to learn. Ms. Guernsey interpreted recent research on childhood literacy for Time magazine, and found that parents interact differently with children over an e-reader than over a physical book. That difference may make children slower to read and comprehend a story.

Children sitting with a parent while an e-reader reads to them understand significantly less of what’s read than those hearing a parent read. Researchers at Temple University, where the study was done, noted that parents reading books aloud regularly asked children questions about the book: “What do you think will happen next?” Parents sitting with the child while a device read to them (like a LeapPad or some iPad apps) didn’t ask these questions, or relate images or incidents in the book to the child’s real life. Instead, their conversation was focused on how to use the device: “Careful! Push here. Hold it this way.”

Ms. Guernsey, observing videos of parents reading to their children from iPads, found a tendency to do the same, even when the device wasn’t doing the reading. Readers with an e-reader were focused on the device, not the story. Children whose parents talk to them about what they’re reading gain reading skills faster, but children reading with parents from digital rather than physical books aren’t getting as much of that kind of interaction.

Does that mean we should never read with or to our children from our various gadgets? Not necessarily. In our house, we find the devices themselves too distracting for regular reading, but I imagine that a child who’s more accustomed to an e-reader wouldn’t be convinced, as mine are, that the book represents a preliminary activity to a rare game of Angry Birds. If I did read from my iPad, I’d look hard at how I talked with my child as we swiped the pages and ask myself whether the tool was changing the conversation. I don’t, so instead, I’m asking myself the usual guilty-parent question, and worrying about whether we read together enough in any medium.

How to create a great Christmas for kids:

If you have children in the house, it will most likely please them to hold a Christmas party for their friends. Here are a few good ideas for a Christmas for kids party:

1. Invitations
Make sure that invitations to the party are special, for example shaped as a star, a snowflake, or a Christmas tree.

2. Theme
Choose a theme for the party. What about Santa Claus' workshop, a snow landscape, or Jesus in Bethlehem?

3. Activities
Prepare some games, songs, decoration competitions, baking, or a treasure hunt where the presents are hidden around the house. You can also let the children write letters to Santa Claus.

4. Food
The food must be delicious and reminiscent of Christmas: Hot chocolate, ginger bread, snowman-faced sandwiches, and sweets. It's also a good idea to serve some fruits.

Add Christmas music, crafts and or caroling all wrapped up in love and you'll have a fun filled childrens Christmas party to remember!

Christmas Angels by P.Z. Mann The Whittles lived in Humbleburg, As poor as poor can be, But all their neighbors loved them, For their generosity. For though the Whittles' shelves were bare, Their cottage tumbledown, When Christmas came they made a toy, For every child in town.
One Christmas Eve they climbed in bed, After all the toys were made; And while they dreamed of better times, The Whittles were repaid. That night three Christmas angels came, To give them a reward -- For heaven won't let any act Of kindness be ignored.
One angel searched the cupboard And found just a crust of bread; "Now, this won't do", she whispered, "Let's prepare a feast instead!" The angels flapped their magic wings, As only they are able, And in a flash a flood of food Filled all the shelves and table!
The tiny house still looked quite drab, It needed to be cheered; And as the angels waved their wings, A Christmas tree appeared! Two angels trimmed the pretty tree; The third flew to and fro, Hanging bells and holly boughs, And sprigs of mistletoe.
Outside, the angels dressed the house With icicles and snow, And on the door they placed a wreath, Complete with a bright red bow! They finished all they came to do, Before the break of day, And as the Whittles roused from sleep, The angels flew away.
Now, when the Whittles saw the food And all the decoration, They pinched themselves and wept for joy, Then danced in celebration! As word spread through the village Of their heaven-sent surprise; Every Humbleburger came To see with their own two eyes!

Once again as we attended the Creativity event in Kingston this past weekend we met some very nice people who were open and willing to share their stories with me. The T-shirt lady, the women at the desk where we stayed and all the vendors were so supportive of my childrens books and the charity and the stories behind my books.

I am currently working on Veronica The Storytellers book edits and cant wait to get them published and posted here on our blog. They are amazing and The Storyteller is an awesome lady filled with inspiration and very ready to give back to our community.

Brighter Days Ahead For Angels of Inspiration!

I have a bit of news to share with our Angels of Inspiration friends and family this morning.

Yesterday late afternoon Derek let me know that he was waking away from Angels of Inspiration.

To my surprise he is leaving me in a bit of a bind where as the new Christmas book is concerned as he has decided not to complete the illustrations, which is leaving not only myself in a bind but printers and publishers whom have already extended his deadline. As well he has mentioned that he has no plans to fulfill our already booked engagements.

Although his presence will be missed we will press on and continue to make a difference, changes for our young and our not so very young for the better. Everything happens for a reason I continue to believe. I am taking a telephone conference with Derek at some point today to wrap up any loose ends that I can have him commit to.

We have Veronica The Storyteller and her three brand new children's books to look forward to soon, so brighter days ahead for Angels of Inspiration!

What is a dream board you ask? A Visual/Dream Board is a visualization tool that allows you to create a collage of images and words that express your goals and aspirations for your future. It is a representation of what you would like to become. Be creative but specific.

How To Start...
1...Begin by gathering images and words that prompt strong feelings within you. Find images on the Internet, within the image library, or use your own images. Add these images and words to your images. example...images that represent .... your ideal job, home,places you want to visit, toys, goals, great marks at school, friends etc...

2...Keep your Dream Board in a place where you can easily see it.

3...As your goals change, so should your Visual/Dream Board.

4...Review your goals often and see what manifests itself. Only through repeated visualization of your goals can you begin to make your dreams and visions a reality.

New Season of Book Tours, New Book and New Author

Here we at Angels of Inspiration are whining up our summer book tour and beginning our fall/winter book tours, with a new Christmas book, new venues and a new author publishing under the Angels of Inspiration logo.

Our new Christmas special limited edition Christmas book entitled The Special Christmas Angel will be out sometime in November, in time for Christmas. Derek is busy working on the illustrations and as for me I wrote and will take author credit on this special Christmas story to share with you all here at Angels of Inspiration. The Other Side Radio Show Interview

Who is Joshua and Jeremy Davis? They are out going independent entrepreneurs born 30 some years ago. Not only were they born identical twins but they were born with cerebral palsy as well.

Together they enjoy a variety of things such as, horse back riding, camping, sailing dancing and kayaking.
As individuals they have many of their own interests.

Joshua has enjoyed success as a motivational speaker and published author having self published three poetry books with the forth book in his series "Words of Hope " in the making. Joshua continues to travel down his own spiritual journey toward spreading the message of life, love and the higher power.

Jeremy has a great passion for municipal affairs, politics business studies and has run for a seat on the board of city councils in 2003 and 2010. He also enjoys taking an active role in his religion as a youth leader at the Holy Trinity Church.

They both hold member ships to the Belleville and District Chambers of Commerce. As a team they successfully host and produce a weekly radio show called The Other Side Radio Show.

Growing up in the public eye Joshua and Jeremy could always be found doing charity work, giving back to their community. In 1991 they were the ambassadors for Easter Seals representing the province of Ontario. They hosted such activities as Quite Autumn Fest and The Snow Flake Fest. Just to name but a few committee Joshua and Jeremy served on, the Santa Claus Parade commity, Canada Day commity, Ontarians with disabilities advisory commity as well as strategic planning comity in the city of Belleville. In 2000 they also helped form The Ontario Sailing association and created an instructional video. Jeremy also was on the Belleville doors open community and was vice chairman of Heritage Belleville. They both have taken part in many public speaking events.

After having graduated high school Joshua and Jeremy went on to work in radio broad casting in conjunction with Loyalist College. They self co-produced a monthly cable program, weekly newspaper/magazine and in 1999 they started community out reach events to fund their independent non profit media projects. 2000 gave birth to their radio show all going under their logo name The Other Side Media Group.
They founded the Other Side Radio Show in 1999 wanting to give a greater forum and voice to those in need, while promoting those making a difference in the community and beyond.

Their vision was then and still is to fill a void directed toward the positive nature of people contributing to improving the quality of life for others. They also try to advocate to but not limited to the special needs and of all walks of life.

After 2000 they got involved with health and well ness expos promoting awareness. Wherever there was a need that’s where Joshua and Jeremy could be found such as the lung association and the Quinte Arts Council, Gleaners Food Bank and Quint Humane Society to name only a few.

When asked what they both would like to accomplish through their work in The Other Side Media Group

Jeremy replied, To continue to provide to all walks of life an open media platform where they can help to improve and advocate a better quality of life for all people.

Joshua answered, "We want to continue to trailblazer a pathway of hope for those people who need our help, To make a difference in their life’s world wide.
Both Joshua and Jeremy agree that they would love to see their message continue to grow world wide.

With their continued work Joshua and Jeremy have received much success and awards along the way, Such as 2002 The Provincial Catherine Frazee Youth Advocacy Award. 2008 They were nominated for Quintes best nonprofit Organization Award and in 2011 They received the National Excess Award presented by the Hastings County of Belleville.

Apart of what Joshua and Jeremy are passionate about in their work are the paths they cross and people they meet. They have been blessed to meet many influential people such as, Prince Edward the Earl of Wessex, Many Priministers of Canada, Political Leaders of all stripes as well as the actors of (CBC) The Royal Canadian Air Farce series. Although a lot of their work is business, they have managed to meet many people and enjoyed fun times and interviews with them, Such as NHL Hall of Famers, Bobby Hull and Geordie Howe. From Michelle Write, Beverly Mahound to Meeting much of the Royal Family sharing an interview with The Late Jack Layton Joshua and Jeremy have enjoyed meeting many different faces.

When I asked if there was one person that they had met that had made a true impact on their lives, they both agreed that meeting and dining with Prince Charles and Princess Diana in Sudbury in 1991was the best, claiming the Princess had made a joke with them by asking the boys to help her get a date . . . LOL

Both Joshua and Jeremy claim to get great satisfaction by making people happy by show casing their stories. As Joshua stated, we all have a story. Jeremy reminded me of the joy it gives him being able to provide others with an opportunity a sense of hope, optimism and purpose for their lives while at the same time he says those are all the perks he gains from doing what he does.

In a combined quote both guys said "we want people to know that the hurtles in our lives and theirs are simply stepping stones in all our pathways to success and our everyday lives." "Never give in to the temptation of giving up. We must persevere."

Jeremy says"anything we do in our lives whether it is through The Other side Radio Show or another venue, we are only two people, we can only do so much but together as a communities we can achieve change."

Joshua wants the world to strive to seek out their dreams until they become our reality.
I asked both Joshua and Jeremy if there was one more thing they could share with me and everyone around them what would it be?

Jeremy, Said he wishes for everyone to learn to live without regrets and to not put off till tomorrow what we can do today.

Joshua exclaimed that his brother Jeremy is the other half that completes him that without his twin brother he would be nothing.

Both Joshua and Jeremy want to make known the great supports that have always had from their mother, father and sister Melissa as well as the friends and family they’ve met along the way.
